from THE WORDS by Schönfeld

/

about

The story of the mighty Zarathustra coming down from the mountain to proclaim that God is dead and wielding his verbal sword over the cleric in his wake, told in true prog fashion in three parts.

lyrics

I)
I must descend
into the depth
into darkness I slipped
like the sun behind the sea
shedding light on the underworld too
I must go down – just like you

I carried my ashes
to the mountain top
into the valley
I bring fire today
Awoken the child awaking the sleepers
from their sleep-walk way

So bless me
bless the cup that overflows
see your reflection on the waves
to sea we all must go
I am the tightrope walker
my act is set
I’ve come here to tell you
(In case you have not heard it yet)
that GOD IS DEAD!

And as the cup longs to be empty
I long to be man
yes, I am here to sing to you
the song of the UBERMENSCH!

II)
Apostles of morality
you shall fall by your own sword
for just like you your morals
are false, corrupt, defraud
you propagate your twilight world
as if it’s all man can afford
shout blasphemy as your god flees
your faith forlorn, remote
Convicts of eternity
your church is crumbling fast
like your god you always knew
that your forever’d never last
Now on its way a future
that will strive without your god
without your saints without your lies
beyond the shadow of your cloth

III)
I slept my sleep
now awake at dreaming’s end
What does the voice of deep midnight
contend?

Deep is the world
Deep is its woe
Deeper than man can comprehend
whispers: fade! Shouts: go!

Joy wants eternity
Joy deeper than heart’s agony
This is my morning
My day begins

Rise up!
Rise with me!
