I)
I wander in dark gardens
listen to the swansong of the night
immersed in the deep that gives and takes
I know my being, I am silent and subside

Fountains squirting pearls of lust
soft bays dream of tall dark trees
my beach is for the living just
I bid farewell – at last – I’m free

I am done with this island life
the silent herds, the dying green
I want to sail to strange shorelines
driven by storms, rapturous dreams

I am algae leaf, hill in the dunes
shaped by the wind, death carries me
despair now far, all longing too soon
I am the coast – eternal is the sea

In strange blood all shall rise
and stay forever drowned
in the fires of man’s lives
wretched passion – now unbound

II)
The silent hours, the fluid colours
of your eye’s fading glance
locked up in my lazy parlour
you are morning, inviting me to dance

Unswept sideways of forsaken love
fleeting kisses and heedless mirth
Unparalleled and supplementing
like your heaven and my earth

Still – the heavy grapes of gravity
pull the bough, not yet overgrown
a few berries, fruity flesh
away, away – this bird has flown


III)
Goodbye to you, my fleeting
free your wings for one last flight
locked in runes complete the sequence
that wrote your name into the light

Goodbye to you, tormentor mine
collecting tears of countless wakes
lost, again, forever in my time
in the deep that gives and takes

Again I must wander in my garden
hear night’s swansong in the tired grass
the nocturnal sea forever, endless
faintly sighing – (then) all is past
