The Moment

from THE WORDS by Schönfeld

/

about

When I came across this Atwood poem I was immediately stricken by its apparent naivety and outward simplicity conveying the complex relationship between wo/man and nature.
I tried to reflect this simplicity in this all too well known, easy aire, which in turn should also act as an antidote to the previous musical complexities.

lyrics

Here you now stand
In the midst of your room
In your house
On your field
On your isle
In your world
And you know how you came here
You have travelled the spheres
Worked ever so hard
Yes, this is the moment
to proudly proclaim:
This I Own

And in this moment
The trees that protect you
Release their embrace
And the winds that carried you
Now blow hard in your face
And all the cliffs crumble
And eventually fall
And you cannot breathe
For the air is a wall

“No” the trees sigh
“No” whispers the wind
“No” roar the cliffs
“No” blows the air
You are nothing!

You roamed the fields
Climbed up the hills
Planted your flags
And proclaimed that
you came and you saw and you conquered

But we never were yours
You never belonged
You never found us
but we found you:
A visitor in time
