Play!

from Re:PLAY by Schönfeld

about

Once I had recorded and mixed "Play!" I got very excited. A relative complex track with a proper lyrical verse/chorus/verse song prelude, a loud, mad, lengthily electric guitar workout in the middle, and a trippy folk-jam as its conclusion, it felt like the real thing, yet it sounded like nothing else I had ever done or did in 2015. Initially intended as an EP release it now finally found its well deserved home here.

lyrics

So now you know that nothing holds up
When the chips are down
You sailed all the seas
And ran your ships onto the ground
You’ve tried all the drugs
But the smile on your face is fake
Head back into the sleepless night
Trying hard to stay awake

Some say they see potential
In the dark blue of your eyes
Naturally you know better
But you still believe their lies
All your friends have moved on
But the devil in your head stayed put
Pretend that all is well in hell
Keeping you from doing what you could

In the end you abandon the truth
And the pointless search for yourself
Quit staring at the empty diary
And put it neatly back on the shelf
For within these four walls
The soulless hermit solely reigns
You laugh at the mirror
While the image slowly fades

You know you got to go
Or stay put and put up with this war
That’s raging inside your head
And you’ve forgotten what you’re fighting for
And finally you know nothing holds up
When you put up and stay
So you might as well put all your memories
In a black plastic bag and play

Yes PLAY!
